Dozens of migrants land in Zakynthos instead of Italy

Greek police arrested 69 illegal immigrants that were spotted wondering near Volimes, in Zakynthos island, in the early hours of Monday.

The migrants were transferred to the closed gym of the town of Panagoula where they were given first aid, food and clothes.

Authorities say that the group, which arrived by a single boat, includes people from Afghanistan, Somalia and Pakistan. Amongst them there are two pregnant women and 15 children.

According to local reports, traffickers abandoned them in Zakynthos, telling them they had arrived in Italy, which was their apparent destination.

The Greek Coast Guard chased the boat and arrested the traffickers on board.
