NATO acts as an intermediary between Ankara and Berlin

The NATO leadership acted as an intermediary between Ankara and Berlin on the visit of the Bundestag deputies to the military base of the North Atlantic alliance in the Turkish province of Konya.

A senior NATO official told the Anadolu agency that the topic of the visit of the delegation of German parliamentarians is in the center of attention of NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller.

“Gottemoeller discusses this issue with the authorities of Turkey and Germany. The efforts of the NATO Deputy Secretary General are a continuation of the process initiated by the alliance’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg with the Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Germany – Mevlut Cavusoglu and Sigmar Gabriel, “the NATO representative said.

Earlier it was reported that the visit of the German delegation to the province of Konya, possibly, will be held on September 8.

NATO also stressed that the NATO airbase in Konya “is of key importance for supporting Turkey and the operations of the alliance to combat the terrorist organization DEASH”
