A crew of forensic investigation workers was on site outside an EDEKA-supermarket in the Hamburg district of Barmbek-Nord, Friday, following a deadly knife attack, which left one dead and six injured.
The assailant, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was reportedly detained following the attack. The police reported that the suspect was “definitely” a one-time offender. Several eye witnesses claimed that the assailant shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack; however, Hamburg police press officer, Timo Zill, has not confirmed this information.
According to the police, the suspect attacked the supermarket’s customers with a kitchen knife and then fled the scene. Witnesses reportedly followed the suspect and alerted the police. The suspect was arrested in the street near the supermarket.
