Russia will respond forcefully to both the European Union and the United States if Brussels supports Washington’s new sanctions, a senior Russian senator told Sputnik on Thursday.
Dzhabarov pointed to a number of EU member states speaking out against Washington’s unilateral moves that would negatively affect European businesses.
“If the European Union supports US sanctions, the Russian response will hurt not only the US, but also the EU,” Vladimir Dzhabarov, the first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee, said.
The US House of Representatives approved on Tuesday a new version of a sanctions bill on Russia, Iran and North Korea, limiting President Donald Trump’s ability to lift the restrictions on Moscow. The measures target Russia’s defense, intelligence, mining, shipping and railway industries, and restrict dealings with Russian banks and energy companies.
