The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, who is considered the favorite for the post of German Foreign Minister, is seeking nomination by the German Chancellor of Germany from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
On the eve of the election, the candidates are trying their best to raise the ratings. Thus, Martin Schultz today went to Italy to personally get acquainted with the problem of migrants. This is reported today by the publication “Westfälische Nachrichten”.
In the afternoon, the candidate for the post of Chancellor from the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Martin Schultz, meets with the head of the government, Paolo Gentiloni in Rome to discuss the problems associated with receiving migrants.
Then he meets with Interior Minister Marco Minniti in Sicilian Catania, where he is going to visit the refugee institution in the evening. In the port city, according to the Social Democratic Party, he also meets a refugee assistant and city head Vincenzo Bianco.
Before the visit, Schulz demanded more help for Italy and warned against the dramatic state of affairs in view of the many rescued migrants in the Mediterranean who come to Italian harbors. Over 93 300 people have already been registered this year. The Italian government appeals again and again to EU partners, so that they liberate the country from migrants by relocating them to themselves.
Two months before the election to the Bundestag, Schulz was sharply criticized for his comments on the possible aggravation of the migration crisis.
