Jerusalem: Israeli police used water cannons to disperse crowd

Israeli law enforcers used water cannons and tear gas during the riots in eastern Jerusalem.

Clashes with the police occurred during the mass protests organized by the Palestinians. According to the police, the protesters started throwing stones and other items. According to some information, a young Palestinian was shot nearby, but there is as yet no exact information about this incident.

The Palestinians declared Friday an “anger day” and went out to protest against the installation of metal detectors in the Temple Mount area in the Old City of Jerusalem to limit access to the Temple Mount for men under 50.

The Muslim community insists that these measures are unnecessary and will complicate access to the shrine. The Israeli authorities explained that they had received intelligence data on the plans of extremists to commit violent actions aimed at undermining public order during the Friday prayer.
