100 DAYS PROTEST AGAINST MADURO IN CARACAS

In the capital of Venezuela, Caracas, 100 days of protests against the socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro, accused of political repression and poverty, were noted.

Thousands of people gathered in the eastern square of the city to hear the speeches of opposition figures, in particular, the wife of the oppositionist Leopoldo Lopez, Liliana Tintori.

46-year-old Lopez was sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of incitement to violence during the protests in 2014 against Maduro, which resulted in the death of 43 people. However, he was sent to house arrest, because the court saw violations in his case. Probably, the government expects that the return of Lopez home can weaken internal protests.

There were protests without the use of force – activists throw “Molotov cocktails” and stones in the security forces. Law enforcement officers in response used tear gas and clubs.
