DNR Head Zakharchenko leads corruption fight

Donetsk, DNR. Following a high profile corruption arrest, DNR Head Alexander Zakharchenko says “the buck stops with him” and that he is the ultimate responsible authority in the republic that will prevent corruption of any and all kinds.

DNR Head Alexander Zakharchenko is set to continue anti-corruption efforts in the Republic.“As I said earlier, there are no immune people in DPR,” he said at today’s meeting with local administrations heads commenting on the recent detainment of first deputy minister of revenues and taxes Alexander Mikhailov suspected of taking bribes.

DNR law-enforcement officials detained the first deputy revenue and tax minister Alexander Mikhailov on suspicion of corruption. “First deputy revenue and tax minister Alexander Mikhailov has been removed from office and is under investigation,” the Ministry reported on its website. “He is facing charges of taking large bribes and exceeding his office powers,” the report said. The official was detained on Monday evening.

The Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Zakharchenko said he personally controls anti-corruption measures that will be implemented at all levels.“As the war rages, as tens of thousands people fight, tens die daily, not a single scum will be allowed to steal state money.”

Further investigations are underway. No further details have been provided due to operational protocol. DNR Revenue and Tax Minister Alexander Timofeyev does not rule out that other persons involved in corruption schemes might be exposed in the course of the investigation, according to the Ministry’s press reports.
