Smoke occurred at the third power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine reported on the smoke in one of the premises of the third power unit at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

“At 15.57, information was received from the Chernobyl NPP regarding the smoke from the premises No. 509 of ChNPP Unit 3. At 16.00, smoke was eliminated with the help of emergency workers.” Radiation condition of the premises of Unit No.3 and ChNPP site is unchanged,” the State Inspectorate said.

The third power unit was launched in 1981, and in December 2000 it was permanently stopped by the decision of the authorities.

The catastrophe at the Chernobyl station occurred on April 26, 1986 – the fourth power unit of the station exploded.
