Kabul, Afghanistan. Another two families will recieve an insurance check, the flag off their child’s coffin and a cased Purple Heart medal in exchange for the lives of their children, killed during the occupation of Afghanistan by an Afghani soldier who killed two US soldiers today.

There were two American soldiers killed Saturday when an Afghan army solider opened fire on them in eastern Afghanistan, an Afghan official said.

The US military did not respond to a News Front request for comment.Such insider attacks have happened before in Afghanistan. In March, another Afghan soldier was killed after he opened fire on foreign forces at a base in Helmand province, wounding three US soldiers.

This brings the total deaths by American forces in Afghanistan to 2398 American men and women lost in Afghanistan, since 2001.Experts from the Veterans Administration estimate a further 20 veterans committ suicide each day in the USA.

Currently, the United States contributes about 6,700 of the 12,400 foreign troops in Afghanistan, followed by Germany, Italy, Georgia and 35 other countries. The US portion is expected to change, meaning that if 30,000 new troops were sent to Afghanistan, about 15,000 would be expected from the United States.

The immediate need, officials said, is to push back harder against the Taliban. The Islamist insurgents have been steadily gaining territory since the departure of most foreign troops at the end of 2014, causing record casualties among Afghan civilians and security forces, and repeatedly attacking scattered provincial capitals. Efforts to hold peace talks with the Taliban have foundered, so more American troops are “needed.”
