Kiev, Ukraine. There are some things a safe, sane society would not normally celebrate, but for the world of Poroshenko occupied Kiev, ending up as the number one nation on earth for corruption is a badge of honor like no other, in the nation that issues military medals for defeats, some suggest a special decoration for most corrupt politician is in order. Ukraine topped the list of corrupt countries, according to a study by the Ernst & Young accounting firm.
The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) in Sydney published the Global Peace Index 2017. According to it, Ukraine’s economic losses from the conflict in the Donbass in 2016 amounted to 20.4% of the nation’s GDP.
In other words, the economic cost of violence in the country is $66.7 billion according to the index of purchasing power. But before you cry for Poroshenko, just know America has his back, for now. During his meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Vice President Joe Biden announced in Washington last December that, pending Congressional notification, the White House plans to commit $220 million in new assistance to Ukraine this year, despite the nation being ranked the most corrupt country on earth.
America’s Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) approved another $62.5 million in financial support to two private equity funds that will invest in Ukraine across a number of sectors that will make it easy to embezzle from. These two investments are in addition to OPIC’s total exposure to Ukraine of $185 million, including $73 million in insurance coverage, $97 million in finance exposure, and an estimated $15 million in indirect exposure to Ukraine through other multi‐country investment funds.
These initiatives and new commitments are part of more than $1.3 billion in foreign assistance the US government has committed to Ukraine in the last three years to advance reforms, despite Kiev being unable to open a functional corruption court. But the money does come in handy killing Kiev’s own citizens in the on going Donbass Genocide there, that has claimed over 100,000 lives in the last three years.
And as far as peace loving goes, Ukraine was ranked as the 154th nation, near the bottom again. Based upon the fact it is within the top 10 producers of weapons worldwide, yet still requests lethal assistance from the USA, so it can sell the weapons on the black market in the middle east for some more easy corruption cash.
