Jacksonville, Florida. If the everyday American ever thought you had to be somebody intelligent to be a member of Congress, then think again as Representative Val Demings has told a constituent, her first amendment rights are “different” from his.
Rep. Val Demings (D.-Fla.) told a man commenting on her desire to take guns away from US citizens, that he was wasting his time – because her right to free speech “is different” from his.
Stephen Mercer reminded Demings on Facebook that she had been censured for carelessness with her firearm back in 2009, after which, she invoked her “special right.”
When a commenter asked Demings if they ever found her stolen handgun and suggested that she be more responsible with her own firearms before talking about gun control for others, Demings offered a peculiar reply, getting testy she stated, ” Teach me how to be PERFECT Stephen, because obviously YOU are. My first ammendment right(s) are DIFFERENT from yours. You are wasting your time.”
News Front contacted Rep. Demings’ communications director, Caroline Rowland, for clarification of Demings’ claim. But, Rowland said the Democrat “will have no comment on that.”
The Congresspersons reply is typical of a large number of similar recent responses illustrating a dangerous level of ignorance among house representatives of fundamental American government.
While of no comfort to American citizens, Representative Demings committee assignments include; Committee on Homeland Security, , Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection, Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Affairs (Ranking Member),and Subcommittee on National Security.
