30% of young voters plan to derail Theresa May’s plans for a hard Brexit

Theresa May could face stiff opposition to a hard Brexit from young voters as a third of them plan to vote tactically in a bid to derail the Prime Minister’s plans.

The stark findings were revealed in a poll by ORB for The Independent and lay bare the growing opposition to a hard Brexit.

At least 30 per cent of those polled said that they would consider backing a candidate based solely on their exit plan for the European Union.

Of those, at least 51 per cent of 18 to 24-years-olds said they would do anything to stop Mrs May’s plans.

But in contrast, over 45s would not consider thwarting the Prime Minister’s move to rush through Brexit her way and would instead support the path that she wanted to follow.

Mrs May has plans to withdraw from the bloc’s single market and the customs union in a bid to stop freedom of movement among EU citizens in the UK.

However, all of the Prime Minister’s plans are facing a potential backlash from all quarters, as EU officials play hardball over the strategy for Brexit negotiations.
