Americans freak out over Russian nuclear tsunami

Moscow, Russia. A retired Russian Army Colonel has captivated America’s doom obsessed media with fairy tales of nuclear tsunamis in their future, but the Kremlin in a rare denial, says the waves are more the fare of Hollywood, than the plans of Moscow for America’s final chapter.

The former Russian military officer claims Russia planted underground nuclear devices along the US coastline to be detonated if war should ever break out between the two bickering nations.

The story, which surfaced in a number of British newspapers this week, was swiftly denied by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who called the report “strange” and cautioned that journalists “not to take newspaper reports like this seriously.”

Victor Baranetz, who once served as a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, made the controversial remarks in an article without presenting evidence, he said that Moscow had secretly installed nuclear bombs along American shores to counter the military presence of NATO members near Russia’s borders in Europe.

“The Americans are deploying their tanks, airplanes and special forces battalions along the Russian border. And we are quietly ‘seeding’ the American shoreline with nuclear ‘mole’ missiles (they dig themselves in and ‘sleep’ until they are given the command),” Baranetz wrote, according to a translation published in March by the Middle East Media Research Institute, setting off paranoid American demands for more information on the threat.

The supposedly secret Russian nuclear weapons projects such as warheads secretly planted along American shores and a submarine-fired nuclear torpedo capable of generating massive tsunami waves have been dismissed by some observers as Hollywood fiction, not actual plans by Russia’s Ministry of Defense.
