Russian law enforcers are verifying information that Akbarzhon Dzhalilov, who is believed to have detonated an improvised explosive device on a train in St Petersburg metro on Monday, got combat training in the ranks of the Islamic State terrorist grouping in Syria in 2015 and 2016.
“On November 29, 2015, he (Dzhalilov) boarded a flight in St Petersburg bound for Istanbul and preliminary data indicates he might get to Syria from there to receive training in ranks of adepts of the Islamic State terrorist grouping,” the source said
The data available to the Russian law enforcers suggests that Dzhalilov was absent from Russia for a long time after departure from St Petersburg.
On Tuesday, April 4, Russia’s Investigative Committee named Akbarzhon Dzhalilov, born in 1995, a native of Kyrgyzstan as a supposed suicide bomber who set off an explosive device on a train at Line 2 (Moskovsko-Petrogradskaya) of St Petersburg metro on Monday afternoon, killing thirteen and leaving another fifty-five passengers wounded.
