Major public organization “Eastern Alternative” in the Republika Srpska (autonomy within Bosnia and Herzegovina, – Ed) took an initiative of erecting a monument to Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s permanent UN representative who recently had passed away.
As explained by the chairman of the organization Vojin Pavlovic, the reason for such an initiative was the Russian veto on a British resolution, according to which the opposition in Srebrenica in 1995 was proposed to recognize the genocide of the Serbs.
“Churkin as the Russian Ambassador had brought peace and stability to the BaH, reported the truth about the war, broke Western stereotypes that all the blame for the war and the suffering lies on the Serbs”, said Pavlovic.
“Eastern Alternative” handed its proposal to the local authorities and expects a positive decision in the near future to establish a monument to the anniversary of the tragedy in Srebrenica on 12 July.
