United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura believes that talks of international negotiators on the Syrian settlement will last for several months with certain breaks held between the ongoing negotiations.
According to the source, the special envoy views the current round of international talks in Geneva as a foundation for the future debates on the tasks regarding the political settlement.
“The special envoy is returning to the plan, which he drafted a year ago, and it aims at holding several rounds of talks with the breaks in between of ten days or two weeks and to reach a framework agreement as a result,” the source said.
“The next round of talks has been scheduled for the second half of March,” the source said. “In case of success, the whole process of negotiations will take several months.”
