London: Astana talks would be a good basis for negotiations in Geneva

Results of the Syrian negotiations in Astana can become a good basis for intra-Syrian consultations under the auspices of the United Nations in Geneva, if theywould help to build the trust on the ceasefire and humanitarian access, said UK Special Representative for Syria Gareth Bayley.

He noted that London welcomes Russia’s, Turkey’s and Iran’s work in the talks in Astana.

“As I understand, the focus of these talks was paid to the ceasefire and delivery of humanitarian assistance. We would like Russia to provide appropriate pressure for the full implementation of the ceasefire”, Bayley said.

“If Astana talks would help to build some confidence in relation to the ceasefire and provision of humanitarian access, it may be a good basis for political negotiations in Geneva”, he explained.
