Trump: Border Patrol Support Key for Building Wall

Donald Trump thanked the Border Patrol agents union for its endorsement of his presidential bid, calling it a key sign of support for his plans to build a wall on the Mexican border.

In a series of tweets, the presumptive Republican nominee stressed that the union’s backing of his candidacy shows that the construction of the wall will be of vital importance in defending U.S. borders.

The wall has been a centerpiece of Trump’s anti-immigration proposals during the campaign.

On Sunday, at the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C., Trump reiterated his promise to build the wall and have the Mexicans pay for it.

When the Border Patrol agents union backed Trump in March, it was the first time the 16,500-strong group had ever endorsed a presidential candidate in the primaries

Their statement of support reflected both the desire for security and the anti-establishment attitude prevalent throughout much of American society.

“If we do not secure our borders, American communities will continue to suffer at the hands of gangs, cartels and violent criminals preying on the innocent,” the statement read. “We don’t need a person who has the perfect Washington-approved tone, and certainly NOT another establishment politician in the White House. Indeed, the fact that people are more upset about Mr. Trump’s tone than about the destruction wrought by open borders tells us everything we need to know about the corruption in Washington.”
