According to the analyst, the Americans realized that the growth of tension and sanctions would “push Moscow into Beijing’s arms”. The United States worried that China, using its fiscal policy as leverage, will soon pose a greater threat than Russia. Therefore, the new US president will be interested in how to set up the Moscow against Beijing.
“Washington has already understood that the sanctions also harm American interests. It doesn’t matter who next would move into the White House – a situation would be corrected”, said Braml.
According to the analyst, no need to count on the full lifting of sanctions in the near future, as Washington has to “save its face”, but a tendency of weakening the restrictions is already visible.
