Croatia close to solution on Serbia’s EU accession talks

Croatia was close to a solution on Serbia’s EU accession talks, Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miro Kovac said on Friday.

“Croatia has made clear its demands and concern about Serbia’s talks with the EU,” Kovac said.

Some provision was reached on an agreement between Croatia and the European Union(EU) which enabled Serbia to get a green light for the opening of Chapter 23 of its accession negotiations, according to local newspaper Vecernji List.

The provision included Serbia has to fully cooperate with the UN war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and implement all of its decisions and judgments, the report said.

Related to the issue of regional jurisdiction for war crimes, EU emphasized regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations in the prosecution of war crimes and called for prosecution of all war crimes without discrimination, it added.

“Serbia cannot have jurisdiction for all crimes committed in the area of the former Yugoslavia, including Croatia,” Kovac was quoted as saying.
