There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts in Abu Ghraib, about 25 km (15 miles) from the Iraqi capital, but they followed the bloodiest day in the city this year that saw at least 80 people killed by ISIS bombs.

The police sources said Thursday’s bombers had approached the building from two directions before detonating their explosives-filled vests.

Baghdad Operations Command, one of the security apparatuses charged with protecting the capital, said in a statement a third assailant had been killed before any of them managed to enter the police station.
