Oliver Spasovski: Macedonia to have autocratic govt unless opposition takes part in June 5 elections

“If the opposition does not take part in the elections on June 5, Macedonia will have an autocratic government with a corresponding parliament,” said Oliver Spasovski, Secretary General of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) and interior minister in the current interim cabinet of Macedonia, speaking in a special interview for Radio FOCUS.

The SDSM official confirmed his formation’s decision not to participate in the elections to legitimise power the country continued having anyway until conditions for fair and democratic elections were created.

“In such a situation, Macedonia will have an undemocratic government [and] an undemocratic parliament. And our aspirations for European and Euro-Atlantic integration will not correspond to the way in which this parliament and this government will be established. On the contrary, I think we will damage even more and destroy the European values, which we do not have in reality in either case,” Spasovski noted.
