OSCE Foreign Ministers to Meet on September 1

The OSCE foreign ministers’ meeting has been summoned due to Europe’s fragile security situation and the need for more dialogue on a political level among OSCE member states, Steinmeier, who is the organization’s current chairman, added.

“I have…decided to convene an informal meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers on 1 September 2016 in Potsdam, to provide space for a broad and deeper political discussion of security challenges facing our region.” Steinmeier said in a joint OSCE Troika statement after meeting with Serbia’s and Austria’s foreign ministers, as well as OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier.

The Troika discussed security developments in OSCE member states, including the recent flare-up of violence in Azerbaijan’s breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the situation in eastern Ukraine and terror attacks in Ankara, Brussels, Istanbul and Paris, according to the statement.

The OSCE Troika is the main consultative body of the OSCE Chairmanship which comprises previous and next years’ chairpersons.
