Kremlin: Russian Economy Can Withstand Sanctions

The anti-Moscow sanctions or difficult situations in global markets are “not lethal” for the Russian economy, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“The oil prices fell, the gas prices fell, also we are experiencing frequent cycles of the international economic crisis. Russia, of course, was among the victims of this international economic situation. Yes, it is hard for us right now. This situation was indubitably exacerbated by the international sanctions. Is this lethal for the Russian economy? Evidently, it’s not,” Peskov said on the TV Tsentr television channel.

The European Union, the United States and their allies introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since the reunification of Crimea with Russia in 2014, accusing Moscow of meddling in the Ukrainian conflict. Moscow has repeatedly refuted the allegations and responded with an embargo on food products from the countries that have sanctioned it.
