The Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) – carried out a surprise military operation inside the Al-Hamidiyah District of Deir Ezzor City on Monday, killing an estimated 65+ terrorists (104th Brigade numbers) from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) near the ‘Aisha Mosque.
According to a trusted military source in Deir Ezzor, the 104th Airborne Brigade and popular committees launched the assault from Central Park, where they successfully destroyed ISIS’ command and control center last week.
Following a violent battle with the ISIS terrorists at the northern perimeter of Al-Hamidiyah, the Syrian Armed Forces successfully penetrated the enemy’s positions and entered this imperative district in the provincial capital’s downtown area for the first time in several months.
While overrunning ISIS’ positions in Al-Hamidiyah, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Brigade killed the terrorist group’s field commander “Abu Qatada Al-Sa’oudi” (Saudi national) and several of his companions before nightfall on Monday.
Assisting the infantry from above, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) carried out a number airstrikes that helped weaken ISIS’ defenses in Al-Hamidiyah, while also destroying 2 pick-up trucks that were mounted with 23 mm anti-aircraft machine guns.
Southeast of the Al-Hamidiyah District, the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division unearthed a 40 meter long tunnel inside the Al-Sina’a District (Industrial District) after a series of intense firefights with ISIS terrorists in the provincial capital.
