Meeting of Millennium: The Patriarch and the Pontifex throw their weight behind the Christians

 

The first ever meeting between the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and the Pope, which was held on Friday at the international airport of Havana, has ended with the signing of the joint declaration and gave hope for the formation of a new phase in relations between the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches.

The meeting between Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis lasted a little over two hours. Clerical leaders called on the international community to prevent the displacement of Christians from the Middle East, to preserve traditional Christian values in Europe, as well as expressed their hope for overcoming the split of Ukraine on the basis of the canonical norms and made a number of other important statements on topical problems of modern society.

 

Following the meeting between His Holiness Pope Francis and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, was adopted a joint declaration, the text of which is published on the Patriarchate’s website.
