IS militants linked to deadly attack in Jakarta

Indonesia’s police say a deadly suicide and gun attack in Jakarta bore the hallmarks of the Islamic State group.

At least two people were killed in a violence in a busy shopping area of the Indonesian capital on Thursday.

National police spokesman Anton Charliyan said the attacks were a copy of recent IS attacks.

“There is a strong suspicion that this is an ISIS-linked group in Indonesia,” he said. “From what we see today, this group is following the pattern of the Paris attacks.”

He said police had received information in late November about a warning from IS that “there will be a concert” in Indonesia, meaning an attack.

Five of the attackers and two other people were killed in the attack Thursday near the Sarinah shopping centre.
