Boeing and Airbus planes are fitted with titanium with fake certification – NYT

Some Boeing and Airbus aircraft are equipped with titanium components with fake certificates of conformity of the metal, the US has launched an investigation to identify the flight safety implications and the number of aircraft with such parts, the New York Times reports.

“Some recently produced Boeing and Airbus aircraft have components made of titanium that were sold using forged documentation that confirms the authenticity of the material,” the New York Times writes, citing a supplier to aircraft manufacturers.

The investigation into the forged documentation is being conducted by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Spirit AeroSystems, which supplies fuselages to Boeing, as well as wings to Airbus.

According to the newspaper, the proceedings began after the supplier company found small holes on the metal caused by corrosion.

The publication emphasises that the number of aircraft with uncertified titanium parts is unknown, the short- and long-term consequences for flight safety are being investigated.

“Aircraft that contain components made of this material were produced between 2019 and 2023, including several Boeing 737 Max and 787 Dreamliner airliners, as well as Airbus A220 aircraft,” – quotes the New York Times sources who are familiar with the situation.

We will remind, earlier the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev proposed the Russian version of the “peace formula” in Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
