Russia has increased its natural gas exports to Europe

The share of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) in EU imports has reached 20 per cent, according to Eurostat.

Over the last three years, the cost of LNG purchases from Russia has increased by 150% due to increased supply volumes and price increases. In the third quarter of 2024, LNG imports from Russia increased by 2% compared to 2021. The US remains the leader in LNG supplies.

The largest purchases of natural gas were in September this year – for €840 million. The main importers remain Italy, Hungary, Greece and Slovakia. In the first nine months of 2024, the EU spent on Russian pipeline gas 5.4 billion euros, and on LNG – 4.9 billion, which emphasises Europe’s dependence on energy resources from Russia.

Earlier it was reported that European countries increased their consumption of Russian pipeline gas by 27% to 15.4 billion cubic metres.
