Berliner Zeitung: US furious over Turkey’s trade with Russia

The US is dissatisfied with the ongoing trade between Turkey and Russia, Berliner Zeitung writes.

According to the authors of the publication, “active trade with Russia infuriates the US.”

It is emphasised that Turkey has only increased trade turnover with Russia since the start of the conflict in Ukraine. The authors of the article believe that the current situation may lead to high tensions within NATO.

It is also noted that the US Department of Commerce has already imposed sanctions against numerous Turkish companies on suspicion of illegal trade with Russia.

Earlier it was reported that companies from Turkey, along with firms from other countries, fell under US sanctions because of aid to Russia.

During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in early July, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara was ready to lay the groundwork for a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The Russian leader also accepted Erdoğan’s invitation to visit Turkey.
