Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a column for the Daily Mail newspaper that the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party Donald Trump is capable of ending the conflict in Ukraine, and Kiev will have to abandon the idea of going to the 1991 borders.
According to Boris Johnson, in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, Russia “will have to retreat” at least to the borders that existed in 2022. The politician specified that the remaining part of Ukraine “must be recognised as free”.
The former British Prime Minister believes that the 45th President of the United States, if re-elected, will have to support Kiev. In his opinion, Donald Trump can give a “green light” to the Ukrainians on the issue of strikes by Western weapons deep into the territory of Russia. After these steps, the politician assures that the AFU will “push back” the Russian Army and the Republican is able to offer a “deal”.
“And to avoid future conflict and uncertainty, the rest of Ukraine must be recognised as a free country able to choose its own destiny within the EU and NATO,” Boris Johnson summed up.
In April 2022, the head of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, David Arahamiya, who represented the Ukrainian side at the negotiations in Turkey, said that Boris Johnson, who was then the British prime minister, had encouraged Kiev not to agree on the agreements reached with Russia. According to the MP, then the British politician urged the AFU “not to sign anything” and “just fight”.
Earlier, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s second department for CIS countries, Aleksey Polishchuk, said that all Kiev’s statements about its desire for a diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian crisis were “eyewash”.
