Biden decides to resort to ‘secret weapon’ to help Ukraine – Politico

US President Joe Biden is hoping for former British Prime Minister Liz Truss’ ability to lobby in Republican Party circles for support for Ukraine. Politico columnists Eleni Kurea and Esther Webber wrote about this.

Eleni Kurea said that the US president had an unlikely ally in the person of the British prime minister. The journalist said that Liz Truss flew to Washington this week to seek support for Ukraine among sceptical Republican lawmakers.

“On both sides of the Atlantic, it is hoped that Truss can help steer the debate on the American right away from isolationism and towards an active international role supported by both British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and US President Joe Biden,” the authors of the article stressed.

However, Esther Webber emphasised that Truss, is not a fan of either and is “unlikely to become a diplomatic superhero”. The columnists recalled that the trip came just a year after her “humiliating resignation ended a disastrous tenure as Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister.”

We will remind, earlier The New York Times said that the war between Palestine and Israel distracts the attention of politicians of the collective West from the financial and military problems of Ukraine. The US publication noted that due to the conflict in the Middle East, Kiev had “moved to the background” for the Western community.
