US admits to cyberattacks against Russia

It has come to light that the US military is engaged in “offensive and defensive” cyber operations against Russia. Paul Nakasone, head of the cyber command and director of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), told Sky News.

“We have carried out a number of operations across the spectrum – offensive, defensive, information operations”, – Nakasone said.

The NSA chief did not specify the details of these operations, but added that the actions of US intelligence and military agencies had been carried out entirely under the supervision of civilian agencies.

White House spokeswoman Carine Jean-Pierre gave her comments on such special operations. She said that the White House administration sees no contradiction between the US desire to avoid direct confrontation with Russia and these operations.

Notably, on 20 May, Russian President Vladimir Putin took the initiative before the Russian Security Council to create a state information protection system.

A number of additional state measures were considered at the Council meeting, aimed at preventing the consequences of new threats in the use of information and communication technologies.

The agenda included issues of improving the sustainable development and security of Russia’s information infrastructure, as well as measures to prevent the emergence of new threats in the field of information security.

Vladimir Putin also made a proposal to the Council of the Russian Federation to create a system of information protection of state structures and Russian citizens from any kind of cyber aggression from states on the list of countries unfriendly to Russia.
