German economic minister candidate called Nord Stream-2 a “strategic project”

The candidate for the post of the Minister of Economy of Germany, co-chairman of the Union 90/Greens party, Robert Habek, spoke to the Süddeutsche Zeitung about the “strategic” nature of Nord Stream-2. In his opinion, the pipeline “increases the dependence of German politics.”

“Nord Stream-2 has never been just a private economic project. This is a strategic project that puts pressure on Ukraine and increases the dependence of German politics”, says Habek, quoted by RIA Novosti.

As emphasized in Moscow, Nord Stream-2 is an exclusively commercial project that “cannot pose any threat to anyone”.

The construction of the gas pipeline was fully completed at 08:45 Moscow time on September 10.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the timing of commercial gas supplies via Nord Stream 2 depends on the position of the German regulator.
