China has called on the UN Security Council to discuss the murder of Suleimani

Commenting on the need to discuss the assassination of Iranian General Kassem Suleimani in the framework of the UN Security Council, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Gen Shuang said the Security Council is responsible for protecting international peace.

In this regard, according to Gong Shuang, the UN Security Council should properly fulfill the obligations imposed on it.

“We have drawn attention to the fact that Iran’s post-deputy to the UN has already handed over letters to the UN Security Council Chairman and Secretary General. U.S. military adventures are a violation of fundamental principles of international relations and have led to escalation of tension and instability in the region. The Security Council bears primary responsibility for the protection of international peace and stability, must properly fulfill its obligations under the UN Charter”, –  RIA Novosti quoted Gong Shuang as saying at the briefing.

At the same time, he added that as a permanent member of the Council, China will continue to maintain a fair and objective position. According to him, Beijing together with other parties intends to protect international law and international justice, as well as peace and security in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Musavi said earlier that Iran had addressed the UN Security Council in connection with the situation around the death of General Suleimani during the US operation in Iraq.

On the night of January 3, the U.S. military conducted an operation in the area of the international airport in the Iraqi capital against General Kassem Suleimani, Commander of the Al-Quds Special Forces, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy Chief of the Iraqi Shiite militia. In Washington, they are believed to have been involved in organizing the storming of the American Embassy in December 2019.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has warned that Suleimani’s death will not go unanswered. Trump, in turn, promised to strike “a quick and strong blow” at 52 targets in Iran in case of an attack on the Americans.
The world community called on Washington and Tehran to exercise restraint.

Earlier radio Sputnik reported that Trump threatened to impose sanctions on Iraq in case of “hostility” to the United States.
