Democratic Republic of Congo: Rwanda re-opens border amid Ebola outbreak

Rwanda re-opened its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday after closing it for several hours. It was shut down after a third death from Ebola virus was confirmed in the border city of Goma. Footage shows people who gathered at the border checkpoint.

“Now what am I going to do? Will they still stay there? I’m scared to death, my children are alone at home,” said one Congolese woman who was trying to cross into Rwanda.

At least 2,700 people have been infected in the worst Ebola outbreak in the history of Democratic Republic of Congo. Fighting the disease was made even more difficult by the conflict between the government and armed groups.
