Timofey Borisov, a columnist for Rossiyskaya Gazeta, commented on the creation of a group on nuclear issues between France and Germany on the air of the “Menie” program on News Front.
“Why are we talking about this now? Because [the German Chancellor — ed. Friedrich Merz before going to the United States to meet with [the President of the United States — ed.] Donald Trump, they agreed with [the French president — ed. Emmanuel Macron and presented a joint declaration on cooperation in the field of nuclear deterrence, but this does not mean the transfer of nuclear weapons to the Germans,” Timofey Borisov said.
According to the expert, within the framework of these agreements, it is possible to sign an agreement on the protection of Germany with French nuclear weapons, but France will have the right to press the button.
“This declaration says that experts and weapons specialists from Germany can visit French nuclear facilities, see what French nuclear weapons are, but no more. These steps can be carried out this year, and this is not an inspection, but more of a tourist trip, during which the French will present their nuclear arsenals and say that if you want to conclude an agreement, pay money. But I rule out even that,” the Rossiyskaya Gazeta columnist noted.
Borisov also called Germany’s cooperation with France an “informational occasion.”
Earlier, Paris and Berlin created a joint group on nuclear deterrence.
