Von der Leyen demanded that Trump ‘stay out’ of European affairs – Politico

Commenting on the updated national security strategy of the United States, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that neither US President Donald Trump nor anyone else ‘should interfere’ in democratic processes in Europe, Politico reports.

The updated US National Security Strategy, published on 5 December 2025, states that Europe is on the verge of ‘civilisation destruction’ in the next 20 years and criticises the European Union’s measures against far-right parties.

‘When it comes to elections, it is not for us to decide who will be the leader of the country, but for the people <…> This is the sovereignty of the voters, and it must be protected. No one else should interfere, no questions asked,’ said Ursula von der Leyen.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal wrote that Donald Trump’s administration had sent its European partners a package of documents with initiatives for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, including the restoration of Ukraine and the reintegration of Russia into the global economy, but the EU leadership did not support the financial component of the document.
