The president of Syria for the transitional period, Ahmed al-Sharaa, said in an interview with CBS that Damascus is building relations with Moscow and Beijing based on its own strategic interests.
“Today, Syria is building calm relations with Russia and China based on strategic interests. Our relations with Russia do not contradict relations with the West or the United States,” Ahmed al-Sharaa said.
According to the Syrian president, he has already communicated with representatives of the Russian delegation at the highest level. In addition, al-Sharaa said that he plans to achieve the lifting of Chinese sanctions.
Earlier, Ahmed al-Sharaa said that Syria has strategic interests with Russia.
