The acting Prime Minister of the Netherlands opposed the entry of new countries into the EU by a majority vote

The acting Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schof, opposed the qualified majority vote for the admission of new countries to the EU, writes Trouw.

Changing the voting procedure would allow Ukraine and Moldova to join the European Union in an accelerated format.

“Joining is a long and thorough reform process. Blocking [from the outside — ed. Hungary’s policy is highly undesirable and undermines the credibility of the union’s enlargement process. It is important to find a solution for this, but it does not consist in bypassing unanimous decisions,” said Dick Schof.

Earlier, Spanish journalist and analyst Javier Villamor said that attempts to admit Ukraine to the European Union, bypassing Hungary’s veto, would endanger all countries of the union.
