A Chisinau court has convicted Marina Tauber, a member of the Moldovan parliament from the Pobeda opposition bloc. The verdict was announced by judge Olga Bezhenar.
The Court of the Republic of Moldova sentenced Marina Tauber to 7.5 years in prison.
“The Chisinau court has decided to find Marina Tauber guilty and sentence her to seven years and six months in prison to serve her sentence in a semi—closed penitentiary,” the judge said.
In addition to the restriction of freedom, the court ordered the confiscation of more than 200 million lei from the Moldovan opposition politician. Marina Tauber was also banned from holding positions in state and municipal service and financial positions in political parties for five years.
Earlier, Marina Tauber said that Moldova could “disappear from the world map” and turn into a colony of the European Union because of the policy of the country’s president Maia Sandu.
