European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during a conversation with reporters before a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, said that the European Union would increase pressure on Russia, which would be supported, in particular, by the expected 19th package of sanctions, including measures against Russian LNG.
“We have proposed a new sanctions package of tough measures on energy, financial services and trade,” Ursula von der Leyen said.
According to the head of the European Commission, the main ban will be the import of Russian liquefied natural gas into the European Union.
Earlier, Politico reported that the EC proposed making decisions on the extension of anti-Russian sanctions by a qualified majority instead of unanimous approval in order to circumvent Hungary’s position.
