Berlin plans to allow the Bundeswehr to shoot down UAVs – Bild

The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) may be granted the right to shoot down suspicious unmanned aerial vehicles in the sky. This was reported by the Bild newspaper.

“The Bundeswehr should be given the right to shoot down drones if this is the only way to prevent a serious disaster. The criterion for shooting down a drone should be based on the assumption that it will be used against human life or critical infrastructure,” the publication states.

Bild noted that critical infrastructure includes power stations, government buildings and airports.

The newspaper noted that German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt is developing a “secret plan” to strengthen measures against UAVs. According to this plan, measures will be taken to detect and classify illegally launched drones. There are also plans to use electronic defence systems, seize control of UAVs or, as a last resort, use armed force.

Earlier, Alexander Dobrindt said that Germany is not yet able to repel attacks by certain types of unmanned systems.
