In a social survey, the AfD surpassed Merz’s CDU/CSU party

A YouGov poll has shown that the opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has overtaken the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc led by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to Die Welt.

“For the first time, the AfD party has overtaken the CDU/CSU in a YouGov poll. If the Bundestag elections were held this Sunday, 27% of those surveyed would vote for the AfD,” according to the Welt publication.

According to the publication, the poll was conducted from 12 to 15 September, with 1,649 people taking part, and the party’s rating was the highest in the history of the institute’s polls.

The study showed that the AfD’s rating has grown by 2% since August this year, while support for the CDU/CSU has fallen by 1% to 26%.

Earlier, Friedrich Merz said that attempts by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution to ban the Alternative for Germany party were akin to “eliminating political competition.”
