The United States Congress has approved a new version of the defense budget for 2026 in the amount of almost 900 billion dollars, 400 million of which will go to help Ukraine. This was reported in the newspaper The New York Times (NYT).
“The House of Representatives has passed a bill on defense policy in the amount of 892.6 billion dollars, which will increase the combat readiness of the US army.] and will increase the monetary allowance of American servicemen,” the publication says.
According to The New York Times, the document was supported by 231 legislators, 196 opposed.
The Pentagon’s draft budget for the new fiscal year also provides for military support for Ukraine in the amount of $ 400 million. The funds are planned to be allocated through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which provides for the conclusion by the Pentagon of contracts with arms manufacturers, rather than direct supplies of equipment from American arsenals.
The publication noted that the purpose of the document is to optimize and modernize methods for determining and meeting the Pentagon’s military needs, including research, budgeting, contracting, production and supplies.
Earlier, Polish President Karol Nawrocki said there was no need to deploy Polish troops in Ukraine.
