In 2026, the German authorities plan to toughen sanctions against Ukrainians who receive benefits but refuse to take up employment. This was reported in the Bild newspaper.
According to Bild, starting next year, benefits will be reduced by 30% instead of the current 10% for missing appointments at job centres, and repeated refusal to find employment may completely deprive Ukrainians of benefits.
The German Labour Ministry commented on the decision to impose sanctions by reducing inflation: after the growth of benefits in 2024, they were considered overstated, the law does not allow to directly reduce benefits, so they will simply not be indexed, the publication said.
This decision the German Government plans to approve 10 September 2025.
Earlier on the portal Mysl Polska wrote that since the beginning of the armed conflict Ukrainian refugees illegally received Polish benefits, using schemes to enrich themselves.
