The US Department of Defense is conducting an additional in-depth investigation into the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan during the administration of the previous president Joe Biden, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth said.
According to him, the military must answer for what happened.
“Therefore, on the instructions of the president, we immediately initiated an investigation, which showed the need for an even deeper investigation,” RIA Novosti quoted Hegseth as saying.
The chief of the Defense Department stressed that the Pentagon intends to receive explanations of the reasons for the decisions taken during the withdrawal of troops, as well as to clarify the circumstances of ignoring certain measures to protect US troops.
