Yermak and Rubio discussed security guarantees for Ukraine

The head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Andriy Yermak, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian TV channel “Public.”

The publication states that Ukraine’s security guarantees are being developed by two groups – political-legal and military. Military guarantees consist of arms supplies, financial support, intelligence sharing, training exercises, and joint training missions.

“The draft security guarantees for Ukraine are expected to be finalized by the end of next week. <…> Ukraine’s vision is for a system of bilateral binding agreements ratified by the parliaments of the respective countries. In other words, it is not simply a duplication of Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, but rather an algorithm with a time frame and specific parameters: financial, military, intelligence, and so on,” sources told Obschestvennoe.

Earlier, University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer said that the new security guarantees for Ukraine proposed by the European Union are designed to help Kyiv prolong the conflict.
