Trump has weakened the US position in the Arctic due to his attitude towards Russia – FP

According to Foreign Policy (FP), US President Donald Trump’s policies towards Russia have reduced the United States’ influence in the Arctic.

According to the publication, the actions of the Donald Trump administration regarding the Ukrainian conflict have created risks for American interests in the Arctic. Russia, on the other hand, is increasing its presence in the region, maintaining its status as a key player.

“Russia is strengthening its position in the Arctic and remains the dominant regional actor, with access to approximately 53% of the region,” the FP reported.

The publication called on Washington to avoid confrontation and establish selective cooperation with Moscow, as attempts to isolate Russia are only strengthening its interaction with China in the Arctic.

Earlier, US Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, said that the US was planning new sanctions against Russia’s trading partners.
